Internet Safety Month

June is Internet Safety Month. We want to help you stay safe and to keep your loved ones safe. That’s why we share info from others, such as from our partners at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC):

“With summer right around the corner, and kids spending more time online, it’s a great time to review online behavior and learn how kids can stay safer while using the internet. There are lots of good reasons for kids to be online, but risks such as online enticementsextortion, and cyberbullying are more prevalent than ever. To help combat these issues, we encourage you and your family to use these free safety materials and resources available from NCMEC.

“In 2022, NCMEC saw an 82% increase in reports concerning online enticement. Our CyberTipline received nearly 32 million reports related to suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Unfortunately, we continue to see CSAM evolving, often becoming more egregious; but we are constantly fighting to protect children and prevent further victimization.

“Our online safety education program NetSmartz provides age-appropriate videos and activities to help teach children how to become more aware of potential online risks. NCMEC also recently launched our newest groundbreaking platform, aptly named Take It Down, which allows users from around the world to submit a report to help remove nude, partially nude, or sexually explicit photos and videos depicting a child under 18 years old from participating electronic service providers.”

Our Survivor Care Program is active! A group just enjoyed a time with a local church at their aquaponics gardens. Thanks, Mountain Springs Church, for hosting them.

If you are curious to know more about our Mentor Program, wondering how to volunteer as a Mentor, you can find more information here: Mentor Program – Reclaiming Hope (reclaiming-hope.org).  We will soon be training more Mentors!

We have been approached by more and more Survivors recently. We are so grateful that you equip us so that we can respond appropriately to their needs. Thank you.
